Hello friends of Finch! Tara of Girl Like The Sea back here on the blogAre you feeling the holiday crazies yet as you scurry about trying to tie up odds and ends? At least when the inevitable holiday hangover happens, you’ll have the release of the new Cotton & Steel to look forward to, right?
Just to get you a little more excited, I thought I’d share a little project I put together with a couple of fat quarters from the upcoming collection.
I swiped a couple FQ’s of the Moonbunnies print by Rashida Coleman Hale and hoped and prayed I could make them work for a dress bodice. Squeezing a bodice out and getting all the moons to line up was iffy, but it all worked out!
We are slightly moon enamored in our household, so this was perfect for my kids. The two girls are into moon phases and watching it chase us through the trees as we’re driving, and my little baby boy howls like a wolf when he hears mention of it. Both girls claim this dress is theirs. And one of them doesn’t even like dresses.
The skirt of the dress is made with some gorgeous and delicate coffee colored eyelet from Finch, and the under layer is some teal shot cotton from Finch as well. I think it’s cool that the circular shapes in the eyelet mimic the moons.
And the two bodice colors look like you’re going from dusk to dark.
You can see a little peek of the lining I used for the dress – also Cotton and Steel. It’s the peanut butter cookie by Kimberly Kight. So cute.
My effervescent middle kid couldn’t let a photo shoot pass without her jumping in the mix. ^_^
I hope you have a wonderful Christmas, and happy fabric shopping afterwards. All of the cotton and steel is available for presale on the Finch website. You’ll get into a bit of a fabric frenzy though if you go look at all of the cotton and steel swatches lined up on one page there though. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
